Prickles Porcupine and the Friend Who Didn’t Mind

Large text for little eyes.

Prickles the Porcupine lived in a peaceful forest filled with tall trees, chirping birds, and playful animals. But even in such a lively place, Prickles felt very alone.

It wasn’t because he was unkind. In fact, he was one of the gentlest creatures in the forest.

The problem was… his quills.

Whenever Prickles tried to make friends, things didn’t go well.

“Want to play tag?” he once asked Benny Bunny.

“Um… maybe from far away?” Benny replied nervously.

When Prickles tried to join a group hug, everyone quickly stepped back.

And once—just once—he tried to wave hello… and accidentally poked a passing squirrel.

“Oh! Sorry!” Prickles cried.

After that, the animals kept their distance. Prickles sighed as he curled up under a bush.
“Maybe I’m just too prickly to have friends.”

A Very Prickly Encounter

One afternoon, while wandering near the edge of the forest, Prickles heard a rustling sound.

“Hello?” he called.

Out stepped another porcupine, with even bigger quills!

“My name’s Hazel,” she said cheerfully. “Who are you?”

Prickles blinked in surprise.
“I’m Prickles… and, um… aren’t you worried about my quills?”

Hazel laughed.
“Why would I be? I’ve got plenty of my own!”

Prickles had never heard anyone say that before.

They walked side by side, their quills gently brushing—but not hurting. For the first time, Prickles didn’t feel like he had to hide.

Learning to Be Close

Prickles and Hazel quickly became friends.

They shared stories, explored the forest, and even invented games that didn’t involve too much bumping.

“Let’s play ‘Careful Catch!’” Hazel suggested.

They tossed pinecones back and forth, very slowly. They practiced sitting close without poking each other.

And when they laughed, they laughed loudly. Soon, the other animals noticed something strange…

Prickles was smiling more.

Curious, Benny Bunny hopped closer. “Um… how are you two not poking each other?” he asked.

Hazel grinned.
“We’re careful. And kind.”

Prickles nodded.
“Being different doesn’t mean we can’t be friends. It just means we do things a little differently.”

A Forest Full of Friends

One day, Prickles and Hazel had an idea.

“Let’s have a forest friendship picnic!” Prickles said.

“But what about the poking?” asked Greta Goose. “We’ll figure it out,” Hazel replied.

They set up a big picnic with plenty of space.
Everyone sat in comfortable spots.
Some animals sat close, others a little farther away.

And guess what? It worked!

There were no pokes.
No accidents. Just laughter, stories, and shared snacks.

Benny Bunny even sat beside Prickles—carefully.

“You’re actually really nice,” Benny said.

Prickles beamed. “I always was,” he replied softly.

As the sun set, Prickles looked around at his new friends.

For the first time, he didn’t feel too prickly. He felt… just right.

And he learned something he would never forget:

Kindness doesn’t depend on how you look on the outside, It grows from how gently you treat others on the inside.

The End !
